SG8 SERIES Frequently Asked Questions
1. Does SUN-SG8S have a USB port for reading from digital camera or the computer? Will I be able to download pictures from PC directly onto the digital frame itself? We designed SUN-SG8S with ease-of-use in mind. All the data transfer is done directly from the memory cards used in your digital camera. To use SUN-SG8S, simply take your memory card from your digital camera an insert it into the memory card slot on SUN-SG8S to playback your photos.
SUN-SG8S does not have a USB port to connect to digital camera or the computer. You will not be able to download pictures from PC directly onto the digital frame itself (there is no internal memory in the device). You may, however, load pictures from your PC to a memory card via a memory card reader. SUN-SG8S supports Memory Stick, SD, MMC, SmartMedia, and CF cards directly.
2. How many photos can I put on SUN-SG8S? SUN-SG8S does not have any internal memory to store pictures; and you won't be limited by the number of photos to display. The number of photos that can be displayed on SUN-SG8S depends on the size of the memory card used.

3. I have photos stored on my computer. How do I go about displaying those photos on SUN-SG8S? You can copy your photos from your computer onto a memory card (via a memory card reader or similar device) and have SUN-SG8S playback the photos on the memory card. In addition, you can organize your photos of different events and occasions into different folders. Then, on SUN-SG8S you can use the File Library Mode to select specific folders to playback. Or, you can have SUN-SG8S playback all the photos on the memory card regardless of folder assignment. This gives you a nice option for displaying your photos.
4) Can I insert multiple memory cards? Yes. The screen will show what types of memory cards are in the slots. Use the remote control to select the memory card
5) Which memory cards are compatible with SUN-SG8S? Does it work with xD-Picture card? You can directly insert into SUN-SG8S memory cards of the following formats: CompactFlash, MultiMedia Card, SD Card, Memory Stick, and MS PRO. For miniSD, RS-MMC, MS Duo, and MS PRO Duo, you will need to use the adapter that came with your card.
6) Can you recommend a specific type of memory card to use with SUN-SG8S? SUN-SG8S can read the following cards directly: CompactFlash, SD (Secure Digital) card, and Memory Stick. Among these, we would like to suggest using a CompactFlash card because CF cards have the fastest transfer rate from card to SUN-SG8S, and will therefore load the pictures faster.
7) What is the resolution of the LCD screen? The resolution of the SUN-SG8S LCD screen when using card reader is 640 x480 and 1024 x 768, when using VGA input.
8) What is the aspect ratio of the screen? If I have photos with a 3:2 aspect ratio, how will they be displayed on the device? The aspect ratio on SUN-SG8S is 4:3. If you have photos with 3:2 aspect ratio, the photo will be displayed with black bars on top and bottom of the screen there will be no rescaling or distortion of your photos.
9) What is the optimal resolution of photos to be played back on SUN-SG8S? The resolution of the LCD screen resolution is 640 x 480 so this is the recommended resolution for the images. Please note that for images of higher solution, SUN-SG8S will automatically resize the photos to fit the screen, so you don't necessarily need to resize your photos. However, if you resize your images down to 640 x480, you can store more images on the same memory card and the images will load faster.
10) Can I adjust the screen brightness and contrast on SUN-SG8S? Yes, you can adjust screen brightness and contrast on SUN-SG870, SUN-SG810, SUN-SG8150, SUN-SG8170 and SUN-SG8190.
11) Can I adjust slideshow intervals? What are the available intervals? You can adjust the slideshow interval time between 1, 3, 5, 10, 30, 60 seconds, 1, 5, 30, minutes, up to 1 hour or 2 hours.
12) Is there any way to randomize transitions? Yes you can change the transition settings on-the-fly with the remote control. There are 14 transition settings you may choose from, including a Random' setting.
13) Can I rotate photos on SUN-SG8S? How does SUN-SG8S handle photos in portrait orientation? When you have the picture on display, you can press the ROTATE button on the remote control to rotate the picture by 90, 180 and 270 degrees. Please note that SUN-SG8S will save the rotated image only if you are in viewing the photos in the same slideshow. The image will return to its original orientation if you restart the slideshow. To retain the orientation settings for the pictures, you can rotate the images in your computer and copy the edited images onto your memory card via a card reader.
14) Can SUN-SG8S stand in both landscape and portrait positions? Yes, SUN-SG8S can stand in both landscape and portrait orientation.
15) Is the frame interchangeable? Yes, the SUN-SG8S frame is interchangeable. You can easily remove the outer frame by operating the two latches of the main unit. Check the SUN-SG8S operation manual page on how to change the frame.
16) Besides displaying photos on full screen, what other functions does SUN-SG8S have? Run automatic photo slideshow to scroll through all your pictures Add your own music to play along with your photo slideshow Change slideshow interval and transition effects on-the-fly Zoom and pan your photos to see the fine details Rotate photos on the screen as you view them Navigate and search your memory card contents easily Copy files between different cards to CF card Delete files directly from memory card Playback MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 videos slideshow interval time between 1, 3, 5, 10, 30, 60 seconds, 1, 5, 30, minutes, up to 1 hour or 2 hours.
17) How do I add my own music to play with my photo slideshow? To play music along with your photos slideshow, copy your selected MP3 file(s) onto the memory card. Then when you press SLIDE button on the remote control, the music slideshow will start SUN-SG8S will play the photos as a slideshow and any MP3 files on your memory card will play in the background.
18) How can I use SUN-SG8S to play a PowerPoint presentation? If you would like to use the device for a PowerPoint presentation, what you can do is the following: A). Save your PowerPoint file in JPEGs (simply choose in PowerPoint application to save the file in .jpg format) each slide will be saved as a separate file. B). Copy the JPEG files onto a memory card via a memory card reader or similar device. C). Insert the memory card into SUN-SG8S and play your PowerPoint slides on the device as a slideshow. You may change the interval settings from 1 sec, 3 sec, 5 sec, 10 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, , 30 min, 1 hr, up to 2 hr. Of course, you may also choose to change the slides manually with the remote control. A lot of customers use the device for their presentation as described above. If you have several presentations to play, simply save them into different folders on your card and you can easily select which presentation to play.
19) What is the purpose of the audio port on SUN-SG8S? The audio output port lets you connect SUN-SG8S to external speakers for enhanced sound quality.
20) Does SUN-SG8S have an automatic on/off timer? Yes SUN-SG8S has an on-board calendar and clock, and you will be able to set an on/off timer at two times at your choice for power saving. SUN-SG8S will automatically turn on and off according to the schedule you set.
21) Does SUN-SG8S have any security features for protecting my memory card and frame from damage or theft? SUN-SG8S has 2 optional security features: 1) The lockable security door of memory card slot protects memory cards from damage or theft. 2) The security lock slot allows you to tether down the frame with a Kensington-type lock to prevent theft.
22) What is the purpose of the host USB i2.0 on SUN-SG8S? USBi2.0 host feature that allows you to pull data (photo, Audio and Video) from a USB thumbdrive or external USB hard drive (FAT32 Format Only).
23) Will the LCD screen be damaged if I keep showing the same photo for a long time? No. Digital Photo Frame can display the same photo continuously for 1,000 hours without any damage to the LCD screen.
24) Why doesn't my Digital Photo Frame show some of my photos? Digital cameras take photos and store them in JPEG format according to camera industry standards. Digital Photo Frame is designed to show photos following the same industry standards. Some images, such as web images, scanned images, or photos in raw format from professional cameras, are not stored according to camera industry standards and therefore cannot be correctly displayed on Digital Photo Frame. Use PC applications to convert such images into standard JPEG format for Digital Photo Frame.
